A person is stronger when they have some sort of bond or connection to another person. They are relied on, questioned when upset or angry and often used as comfort in a stressed situation. A bond can cause great things to happen even if most of the decisions can be sometimes foolish or selfish. Blondies don't naturally form these Bonds with anyone and to Iason that was no exception. A person was valued to him on how useful they could be and how much worth he could get out of them. Strength was pure physical motion and the strength and value of a person, including himself, was only measured by how far ahead one could play the game of life over another person.
When Katze had left he had a deep resentment for the man. His return here would mean his death at his own hands if the redhead ever woke again. He could not understand why a loyal servant could choose to return to sleep and live in a world where he was treated far less than Iason had begun to treat him and those here that persisted in treating him as a normal person. Perhaps it was the normality the other craved just as much as the Blondie did. Being outcast from the normal means he had Ascended to Angelii shortly after the bear Deva had been put in his place. He had done it for the city and for his own sake but mostly to keep the foundation he was already building within Nautilus alive.
Except now he had begun to change his way of thinking and perception of others. Quick to judge, it had never been his strong suit to take a step back and examine what caused a situation over how he could eliminate it entirely in the most efficient manner. Finding himself on the outside of most politics and in the common section of the population Iason had more time to examine the people that filled the city day by day. It was then that his observation habits picked up from the amount that flooded in to the amount that strayed from certain sectors.
Lelouch had been one of the only people Iason felt he could put his trust in besides the Deva Calex. The other had a like mind and a brilliant strategic placement upon everything he did. When it was his time to journey away from Nautilus Iason was distraught at losing what little reliance he had in the city. Normally he would've demanded the other stayed or given him no choice in the matter by blackmailing or assessing the situation in a way that stopped him from leaving but Iason had started to realize that Lelouch meant more to him than simply a tool he could use. He had allowed the other to leave but even then that wasn't true. The truth was that Iason had no choice in the matter and his hands were tied to how he felt actual respect for the man he had come to know as more than simply what he was.
Lucas was useful even if his habits were annoying and for a while he was used as a distraction to forget that Lelouch had left. A simple gesture of kindness from Lucas prompted him to explore what he could benefit from it. When Iason was tired and exhausted the other man persisted even when Iason had become useless on more than one occasion. Over time he begun to acknowledged the other as more than simply a substitution and with him came others he started to trust and respect. He was essentially the gateway to much more than Calex had already taught him. Strange how annoyances seemed to pick at Iason's inner person more than he ever wanted them to.
Then one day Iason made a decision to bond with someone else and while usually an Ashura picks their Angelii Iason had already made a decision to approach Lucas. Asking in his usual polite yet impolite manner he gave his trust to Lucas and allowed him to form a Bond with him. Blondies don't form bonds, trust, or allow others to ever view their inner being. It's because Blondies don't normally have any urges to be around others nor to even want anything but completion of tasks or problems. To feel was a weakness and to let others see a Blondie even with what little emotions they may have was to let anyone see a weakness in general. Something to be used against himself was what he never wanted.
Lucas now knew his quirks, his weaknesses and over time his faults and moves. He could anticipate everything if he wanted to but for once Iason didn't feel so exposed. When the idiot got himself captured he felt legitimate worry or as worried as a Blondie could be. He put aside logic and reasoning in order to save him regardless of the groups already making their way into AM's hidden lair. Bonds can make a person foolish or stubborn and Iason was becoming one of those people swayed by such selfish decisions.
Iason's greatest bit of change was Nautilus itself. After the bear Deva had been cast out he had seen the city as his only choice of living now that he was dead in his home world and he protected it with that intention to keep it intact. Over the months that followed he had started to protect it for the sake of wanting it to exist and eventually prosper.
A problem he thought fixed only came back to haunt the city as traces of the bear Deva's pawprints were still at large. A disease or poison as some called it was starting to take down each Wakened and Iason himself was soon feeling the side effects of the infection. Nautilus had purged all of that with great effort and strain. On 'Christmas' when everyone was celebrating and enjoying each others' company Iason spent the night with Nautilus mostly alone near the Heart. He was grateful and felt at least someone should be as close as possible to the Aeon that night. Not to mention he was worried what the one being that he could consider a father figure or a guardian was feeling that night. Worn and tired for sure, he wanted to be there in case anything further happened. A weak Aeon was likely vulnerable and day after day when he watched over the other each night out in the cold his assumption had been right.
Seeing vines and thorns covering Nautilus' heart enraged Iason and he hadn't felt such a way in a long time. Not since his arrival in Nautilus when he had been taken from perhaps the one person he had felt such rage over, Iason lashed out at the creatures escaping into the city and with uninhibited hate and focus he UnMade every one of them without hesitation. By the end of the ordeal Iason had nearly succumbed to the infection from overextending his energy in order to save Nautilus and its people. It would take several weeks to even feel like himself again enough to venture out into the city but the weeks it took to recover even Iason had realized his foolish errors in nearly getting himself killed for the sake of another. He could already feel that sense of changing and over calculating. It disturbed him but he refused to be hindered by it.
A bond is a weakness and a bond can get someone killed but these were the bonds that Iason wanted to keep even if it resulted in his eventual permanent death.
